Solar Energy Corporation of India Partners with Mumbai Port Authority to Solarise Port Infrastructure

Feb 18, 2026

Agreement aims to introduce solar power systems across port facilities, strengthening green infrastructure in the maritime sector. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mumbai Port Authority to expand the deployment of solar power systems across port premises.

The MoU was formalised in Mumbai, with Manas Ranjan Mishra, Deputy General Manager, signing on behalf of SECI, and K. Ramesh, Chief Mechanical Engineer, representing the Mumbai Port Authority.

According to SECI, the collaboration reflects its continued efforts to extend renewable energy adoption into key sectors such as maritime infrastructure. The initiative is designed to support India’s broader sustainability and decarbonisation objectives by greening critical public assets.

The partnership is aligned with national clean energy targets and highlights the growing role of solar power in enhancing the resilience and environmental performance of infrastructure assets. SECI noted that it intends to pursue similar cross-sector engagements to further accelerate India’s transition toward a low-carbon energy ecosystem.

In recent months, SECI has signed multiple agreements to expand rooftop solar adoption nationwide. These include an MoU with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation under the PM Surya Ghar scheme for installing grid-connected rooftop solar systems on DGCA buildings, as well as an agreement with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to solarise approximately 244 municipal buildings in Delhi.

In December 2025, SECI signed a Statement of Intent with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to collaborate on grid modernisation and clean energy integration initiatives. It also entered into agreements with Indraprastha Power Generation Company (IPGCL) and Pragati Power Corporation (PPCL) to explore solar, energy storage and emerging clean energy opportunities.

Earlier collaborations include an MoU with the Ministry of External Affairs to equip MEA buildings nationwide with rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and a partnership with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to develop 300 MW of solar-based renewable energy projects across DRDO campuses, targeting Net-Zero operations by 2027.

Additionally, SECI signed an MoU with the Renewable Energy Agency Puducherry to solarise government buildings across the Union Territory, further reinforcing its role in scaling renewable energy deployment across public institutions.

The agreement with the Mumbai Port Authority marks another step in integrating clean energy solutions into essential infrastructure, strengthening the maritime sector’s contribution to India’s energy transition.
