Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills Achieves 100 Percent Daytime Power Independence Through 5.5 MW Solar Project

Oct 24, 2025

Hyderabad-based Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills, a leading yarn and denim manufacturer, has achieved a significant sustainability milestone by meeting 100% of its daytime power requirements through solar energy. The company’s 5.5 MW captive solar project marks a major step in its journey toward cleaner, more cost-efficient operations.

The solar installation includes a 3 MW ground-mounted system and a 2.5 MW rooftop system, implemented in multiple phases. With this setup, Suryalakshmi has reduced its dependence on grid electricity by 25%, leading to equivalent cost savings.

As a continuous process industry operating 24/7, power costs form a substantial part of Suryalakshmi’s expenditure. To counter rising operational and grid tariffs, the company adopted solar power as a key part of its energy procurement strategy.

Following the successful deployment of its 3 MW ground-mount system, the company expanded with a 2.5 MW rooftop installation to utilize available roof space efficiently. The rooftop project, installed by Candi Solar in February 2025, uses Longi 540 Wp Mono PERC and Waaree 545 Wp bifacial modules, while the ground-mounted setup features Znshine Mono PERC modules.

Together, the systems generate around 21,000 units of electricity per day, equivalent to 65,000 units per month, ensuring clean and reliable daytime power for its manufacturing units.

In addition to its captive installations, Suryalakshmi has also signed a 500 kW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gentari, further enhancing its renewable energy portfolio. Encouraged by the success of these projects, the company now plans to install solar panels at its Nagpur factory.

Despite challenges such as uneven rooftop surfaces with a 20-degree slope, Candi Solar successfully completed the project by integrating Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and implementing zero power export mechanisms across all installations.

Through these initiatives, Suryalakshmi Cotton Mills continues to strengthen its position as a leader in India’s sustainable textile manufacturing sector, showcasing how industrial players can combine efficiency with environmental responsibility.
