Telangana's Renewable Energy Policy 2025: A Bold Vision for a Greener Future
Feb 06, 2025
Telangana has unveiled its Renewable Energy Policy 2025, setting ambitious targets to boost clean energy adoption in the state. The policy aims to install 30.54 GW of renewable energy capacity by FY 2030 and expand it further to 40.06 GW by FY 2035. This comprehensive roadmap includes solar, wind, pumped storage, battery storage, hybrid systems, geothermal energy, renewable energy-based EV charging, and green hydrogen production.
Key Highlights of Telangana’s RE Policy 2025
1. Massive RE Expansion
Telangana has set a clear target of 30.54 GW of renewable energy by 2030, which will further increase to 40.06 GW by 2035. This capacity will come from a mix of solar, wind, storage solutions, and distributed sources, making Telangana a leader in sustainable energy growth.
2. Green Hydrogen Push
A crucial element of the policy is green hydrogen production, aligning with India’s national hydrogen mission. The state aims to generate 418 KTPA (Kilotons Per Annum) of green hydrogen by FY 2030 and increase it to 554 KTPA by FY 2035. This step will position Telangana as a hub for clean hydrogen production, catering to industries and transportation.
3. Boosting Energy Storage & Hybrid Systems
The policy promotes pumped storage hydro projects, battery storage, and hybrid renewable energy systems to ensure a stable and reliable power supply. These initiatives will help Telangana balance intermittent renewable generation while enhancing grid security and efficiency.
4. EV Charging Infrastructure Development
Telangana is also focusing on the rapid expansion of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) to support the growing EV market. The state plans to install 6,000 EV charging stations by FY 2030 and 12,000 EVCS by FY 2035, paving the way for large-scale EV adoption and reducing transportation-related emissions.
Why Telangana’s Policy Matters
The Renewable Energy Policy 2025 marks a transformational shift for Telangana’s energy sector. By diversifying its energy mix and investing in green hydrogen, storage, and EV infrastructure, the state is taking a holistic approach to achieving energy security and sustainability. The integration of multiple renewable technologies will reduce dependence on fossil fuels, cut carbon emissions, and create new economic opportunities.
Additionally, Telangana's push for green hydrogen will make it an attractive destination for industries looking to transition to cleaner fuels. With robust policy support and a clear roadmap, the state is well-positioned to become a renewable energy leader in India.
As the world moves toward a cleaner energy future, Telangana's ambitious goals set an example for other states to follow. The coming years will be crucial in tracking the state's progress and ensuring the successful implementation of its vision for a sustainable tomorrow.
