Assam Chief Minister Commissions SJVN Green Energy’s 70 MW Solar Plant in Bilasipara
Jan 17, 2026
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has formally inaugurated SJVN Green Energy Limited’s (SGEL) 70 MW solar power project at Khudigaon in Bilasipara, marking a significant milestone in the state’s renewable energy journey.
Developed at an investment of Rs367.44 crore, the solar plant has been constructed on 330 acres of land provided by the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). The project is expected to generate 141.13 million units (MU) of electricity in its first year of operations, operating at a capacity utilization factor (CUF) of 23%. Over its projected 25-year lifespan, the plant is estimated to produce around 3,230 MU of electricity.
The commissioning of the project is also expected to deliver substantial environmental benefits, with an estimated reduction of approximately 158,270 tonnes of carbon emissions.
SGEL secured the project from APDCL on February 16, 2023, through a tariff-based competitive bidding process, with a discovered tariff of Rs3.92 per unit.
Addressing the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma stated that Assam’s installed solar capacity has now increased to 680 MW, and is expected to reach 750 MW by April 2026. He reiterated the state government’s long-term objective of achieving 3,500 MW of solar capacity by 2030, underscoring Assam’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy development.
According to SJVN, the Bilasipara project represents Assam’s first utility-scale solar installation and also marks SJVN’s first operational renewable energy project in the North Eastern Region.
