Australia Achieves Record Renewable Energy Share in Q4 2024

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has reported a record renewable energy contribution of 46% in the National Electricity Market (NEM) for Q4 2024, marking a significant decline in coal-fired generation to below 50%. This progress aligns with Energy and Climate Minister Chris Bowen’s target of 82% renewables by 2030, proving its feasibility.

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming key price setters, with major projects like Masdar’s 19GWh BESS signaling rapid growth.
