Bajel Projects Wins Over INR 400 Crore Contract for 500 kV Transmission Line Project in Egypt

Bajel Projects Ltd., a part of the Bajaj Group, has secured a contract worth more than INR 400 crore from the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for the construction of two sections of a 500 kV overhead transmission line in Egypt. The project strengthens the company's international transmission portfolio and marks another milestone in its expansion across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The agreement covers the execution of Lot 1 and Lot 5 of a high-voltage transmission corridor that forms part of Egypt's ongoing national grid reinforcement programme. The project is designed to enhance the country's bulk power transmission infrastructure, improve grid reliability and facilitate the evacuation of electricity to meet growing industrial, commercial and residential demand as Egypt continues to expand its power generation capacity.

The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony in Cairo attended by senior officials from both countries. Representing Bajel Projects was Rajesh Ganesh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, while the event was witnessed by Suresh K. Reddy, Ambassador of India to Egypt, alongside Mona Rezk, Chairperson of EETC, and other senior government and utility officials. The high-level participation reflects the strengthening infrastructure and economic cooperation between India and Egypt.

According to the company, the project falls under its Ultra Mega order category and demonstrates growing international confidence in Bajel Projects' engineering expertise, project management capabilities and execution of complex extra-high-voltage transmission infrastructure. The company has been steadily expanding its presence in overseas power markets by leveraging its experience in transmission lines, substations and grid infrastructure projects.

Egypt has been making significant investments in modernising and expanding its electricity transmission network to support rapid economic growth, industrialisation and the integration of renewable energy projects. The country has emerged as a major renewable energy hub in North Africa, with ambitious plans to increase the share of wind and solar power in its electricity mix. Strengthening high-voltage transmission infrastructure is essential for connecting new generation capacity to demand centres and improving overall grid stability.

The latest order further reinforces Bajel Projects' strategic focus on the MENA region, where it has been expanding its operational footprint. The company already operates through a 50:50 joint venture with the Al Sharif Group in Saudi Arabia and has recently established Bajel T&D Projects and Contracting in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to pursue transmission and distribution opportunities across the Gulf region.

The contract also highlights the growing global competitiveness of Indian engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies in delivering critical power infrastructure. As countries across the Middle East and Africa invest heavily in grid expansion, cross-border interconnections and renewable energy integration, Indian transmission specialists are increasingly securing large international projects, supported by their technical expertise, cost competitiveness and experience in executing high-voltage transmission networks.
