BPCL Commissions 52 MW AC Solar Facility in Prayagraj to Power Refinery Operations
Feb 02, 2026
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has commissioned a large-scale solar power facility in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing its push toward cleaner energy integration across operations. The project has a capacity of 71 MWp (DC) / 52 MW (AC).
The solar plant was inaugurated by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri during India Energy Week, in the presence of senior BPCL leadership, including Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) and Additional Charge of Chairman and Managing Director, Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), and D.D. Sarkar, Chief General Manager (Renewable Energy).
Spread across 210 acres, the facility comprises approximately 1.29 lakh solar modules, supported by 1,324 metric tonnes of structural steel and nearly 294 kilometres of cabling. The plant is connected to the grid through a 132 kV transmission line and is expected to produce 103.61 million units of electricity annually. The generated renewable power will be supplied to BPCL’s Mumbai, Bina, and Kochi refineries.
According to BPCL, the project will help cut around 75,150 metric tonnes of carbon emissions each year, an impact comparable to planting nearly 1.25 crore trees, further supporting the company’s sustainability and decarbonisation objectives.
