CEA Calls for Details on Domestic Grid-Forming Inverter Production Capacity
Feb 11, 2026
The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), functioning under the Ministry of Power, has invited information from manufacturers of Grid-Forming (GFM) inverters regarding their domestic production capacity and pricing structures. The move comes in view of the rising penetration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, and the increasing importance of maintaining grid stability.
In a communication issued by its Energy Storage System Division, the CEA highlighted the need to evaluate India’s existing manufacturing capabilities for GFM inverters. The assessment is intended to support future planning efforts and guide potential policy, regulatory, and technical measures as the power system evolves.
Manufacturers across the country have been asked to submit comprehensive details in a prescribed format. The requested information includes company contact particulars, installed manufacturing capacity for GFM inverters within India, and indicative cost data for both Grid-Forming (GFM) and Grid-Following (GFL) inverters produced domestically.
The authority has specified that pricing information should be provided across multiple capacity segments — 10 kW, 100 kW, 1 MW, and the maximum rating manufactured — covering both central inverter and string inverter configurations.
CEA has set February 10, 2026, as the deadline for submission of the required data. Additionally, the authority has instructed its IT Division to publish the communication on its official website to ensure wider dissemination among stakeholders.
