Essar Renewables Inks Rs 20,000 Crore MoU with Andhra Pradesh to Build 4 GW Renewable Projects with Battery Storage

Nov 17, 2025

Essar Renewables has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to develop 4 GW of renewable energy projects equipped with integrated Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The company has committed an investment of nearly Rs 20,000 crore for the initiative.

The MoU was signed by Ankur Kumar, CEO of Essar Renewables, in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during the CII Partnership Summit 2025 held in Visakhapatnam.

According to the company, this large-scale clean energy programme is expected to generate over 7,000 jobs and reinforce Andhra Pradesh’s growing prominence as a renewable energy hub.

In a similar move last month, Essar Renewables signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to invest Rs 20,000 crore in setting up 4 GW of renewable energy capacity—including solar, wind, and battery storage—across Kutch, Jamnagar, and Devbhumi Dwarka districts.

Earlier in the year, the company also committed around Rs 8,000 crore through an MoU with the Maharashtra government to develop 2 GW of renewable energy projects. This investment will primarily support round-the-clock renewable power for the electric truck charging network of Blue Energy Motors and Greenline.

Essar Renewables is actively expanding its portfolio across solar, wind, and battery storage technologies. The company plans to install more than 8 GW of renewable capacity within the next five years through strategic partnerships and technology-driven initiatives.
