GAIL Gas, GAIL (India) and Reliance Ink Tripartite Agreement to Supply CBG to City Gas Networks
Jan 31, 2026
Pact signed at IEW 2026 to integrate compressed biogas into CGD systems in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. GAIL Gas Limited, GAIL (India) Limited and Reliance Industries Limited have entered into a tripartite agreement under the CBG–CGD Synchronisation Scheme, aimed at expanding the use of compressed biogas (CBG) within India’s city gas distribution (CGD) infrastructure.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 in Goa. Under the arrangement, CBG will be supplied to the Meerut geographical area in Uttar Pradesh and the Raisen geographical area in Madhya Pradesh, both operated by GAIL Gas, facilitating the integration of renewable gas into existing CGD networks.
The signing took place in the presence of Goutom Chakraborty, Chief Executive Officer, GAIL Gas, Sudhir Kumar Dixit, Chief Operating Officer, and Amit Jhalani, Chief Financial Officer.
Strengthening the CBG ecosystem
The collaboration is intended to strengthen India’s compressed biogas ecosystem by enabling seamless blending of CBG with natural gas in city gas networks. It supports broader efforts to promote renewable fuels across the natural gas value chain, while improving access to cleaner energy solutions for urban and semi-urban consumers.
In a statement, GAIL Gas said the agreement reflects the participating companies’ shared commitment to advancing clean energy adoption and contributing to India’s low-carbon and sustainable energy transition.
