GAIL Plans 600 MW Solar Project with Battery Storage in Uttar Pradesh
Apr 14, 2026
GAIL (India) has unveiled plans to invest Rs 3,294.86 crore in developing a 600 MW greenfield solar power project integrated with a 550 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in its renewable energy expansion.
The company stated that the project will be financed through a combination of debt and equity and is expected to be completed within 15 months from the award of the EPC contract, as per its regulatory filing.
This announcement follows GAIL’s recent commitment to invest around Rs 1,736.25 crore in a 178.2 MW greenfield wind power project in Maharashtra, reflecting its broader strategy to scale up renewable capacity and strengthen long-term growth.
Currently, GAIL operates approximately 117.95 MW of renewable energy capacity, which is running at full utilisation. In addition, it has about 29 MW of installed solar capacity, also fully operational. The upcoming projects are expected to further enhance its clean energy portfolio.
As part of its sustainability roadmap, GAIL aims to achieve net-zero emissions by reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2035, and Scope 3 emissions by 2040. The company is targeting a total renewable energy capacity of around 3.4 GW by 2035 to support these goals.
