GIPCL Expands Khavda Solar Project, Commissioning 105 MW to Reach 210 MW Operational Capacity

Oct 23, 2025

Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL) has commissioned an additional 105 MW of its 600 MW solar project at Khavda, Gujarat. With this latest addition, the project’s total operational capacity has now reached 210 MW. The Khavda solar project is part of the 2,375 MW Renewable Energy Park located in the region, which had previously commissioned 105 MW in June 2025.

The 600 MW project was originally tendered by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam in September 2022, with a greenshoe option allowing for an additional 600 MW. NHPC, SJVN Green Energy, and NTPC Renewable Energy emerged as successful bidders during the auction, while GIPCL secured the full 600 MW under the greenshoe option by quoting a tariff of Rs 2.73 (~$0.031)/kWh, matching the lowest rate discovered in the initial auction.

Following the award, GIPCL floated a tender for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the project in May 2023. Sterling and Wilson received the letter of intent from GIPCL in August 2023, marking the start of project development.

The Khavda Renewable Energy Park, totaling 2,375 MW, includes 1,100 MW of solar projects currently under construction with 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) in place with GUVNL. Additionally, GIPCL is developing a 75 MW group captive solar project on reclaimed land at the Vastan Mine, with plans to expand solar capacity to 500 MW in phases.

Across Gujarat, GIPCL operates 547 MW of solar capacity and 112.4 MW of wind capacity across five projects in Saurashtra and Kutch. The company has also installed rooftop solar systems at its thermal plants to reduce auxiliary power consumption. Overall, GIPCL’s total installed capacity now stands at 1,469.4 MW.

In August 2024, the company invited bids for modules to support a 500 MW solar project at the Great Rann of Kutch, further expanding its renewable footprint in the state.
