Godawari Power and Ispat Enters BESS Manufacturing with 10 GWh Plant Planned in Maharashtra

Nov 29, 2025

Godawari Power and Ispat (GPIL), part of the HIRA Group, has announced its entry into the battery energy storage systems (BESS) segment with a proposed 10 GWh manufacturing facility to be developed through its newly incorporated subsidiary, Godawari New Energy.

According to a regulatory filing, the company has sanctioned an initial investment of around Rs 700 crore for the project and has already secured 112 acres of land in Maharashtra for the plant. GPIL noted that 40 percent of the capital expenditure will be financed through equity, while the remaining 60 percent will be raised via debt. Godawari New Energy Pvt. Ltd. (GNEPL) was established in June 2025 and is headquartered in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

In addition to its BESS foray, GPIL has outlined plans to expand its existing 165 MW captive solar power plant by an additional 125 MW, taking the total capacity to 290 MW. The company will invest approximately Rs 395 crore in this expansion. It confirmed that land acquisition for the additional capacity has been completed, orders have been placed, and construction has already begun. The new solar capacity will support power requirements for its 2 MnT pellet plant, beneficiation plant at Ari Dongri, and SMS expansion.

GPIL has also approved the development of another 250 MW captive solar power plant at a projected investment of Rs 750 crore. This facility will cater to the power needs of its ISP and CRM operations, further strengthening the company’s renewable energy integration strategy.
