GoodEnough Energy Launches 7 GWh BESS Manufacturing Facility in Uttar Pradesh
Jan 23, 2026
Energy storage solutions provider GoodEnough Energy has commissioned an initial 7 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing capacity at its gigafactory in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in its domestic manufacturing expansion.
The company has invested over Rs 4.5 billion (around $49 million) in the facility and has outlined plans to scale its manufacturing capacity to 25 GWh over the next three years. The newly operational capacity is expected to cater to a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, healthcare, mining, and commercial real estate.
GoodEnough Energy has already begun deploying its BESS solutions across India and is also preparing to enter the electric vehicle charging infrastructure segment, particularly targeting regions with limited grid connectivity. The company’s storage offerings are designed to support smart energy functions such as peak shaving, load shifting, and seamless integration of renewable energy sources.
The commissioning comes amid growing momentum in India’s BESS manufacturing landscape, with several domestic players announcing new capacity additions in recent months. Earlier this month, Kolkata-based Ddev Plastiks revealed plans to establish a 5 GWh BESS manufacturing facility, while Bengaluru-headquartered Nash Energy commissioned a 2 GWh fully automated prismatic battery pack manufacturing line at its Dobbspet facility in Karnataka.
Policy support is also shaping the sector’s growth trajectory. The Ministry of Power has temporarily waived the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) registration requirement for bidders using lithium-ion cell technology with transfer-of-technology arrangements involving land-border-sharing countries. This waiver, effective from January 9, 2026, will remain in place for one year and allows such bidders to participate in tenders for grid-connected BESS projects.
While BESS manufacturing in India is still at an early stage, the government is actively encouraging the development of domestic capacity. The Ministry of Power has directed states and procuring entities to ensure at least 20% local content in BESS projects supported under the viability gap funding programme.
In addition, renewable energy implementing agencies and state utilities have been advised to include a minimum two-hour co-located energy storage system equivalent to 10% of installed solar capacity in all future solar tenders, further strengthening the long-term demand outlook for energy storage solutions in the country.
