HG Infra Signs BESPA with GUVNL for 300 MW/600 MWh Standalone BESS Project in Gujarat
Nov 29, 2025
HG Infra Engineering has entered into a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) to develop a 300 MW/600 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Gujarat.
The capacity was awarded to the company during GUVNL’s 500 MW/1,000 MWh BESS auction held in April 2025, at a discovered tariff of Rs 2.85 lakh per MW per month. The project will be developed without any Viability Gap Funding (VGF).
Under the agreement, the BESS facility will be installed at a location within Gujarat and connected to the state’s Intra-State Transmission System (In-STS). Site selection will be carried out by the developer. The system will draw charging power from GETCO and inject stored power back into the GETCO network based on dispatch instructions issued by SLDC in coordination with GUVNL. GUVNL will supply the required power for charging, aligned with the minimum efficiency conditions laid out in the agreement.
The developer is required to ensure the system can deliver two full operational cycles per day, accounting for two complete charge-discharge operations. The BESS must maintain at least 95 percent annual availability and guarantee a minimum monthly AC-to-AC roundtrip efficiency of 85 percent.
With this project, HG Infra will contribute to enhancing grid stability and strengthening renewable energy integration in Gujarat. As the state continues to expand renewable capacity, large-scale storage solutions like this are becoming increasingly vital for managing intermittency, shifting peak demand, and ensuring consistent supply of clean power.
