India, Australia, Canada to Form Trilateral Pact to Strengthen Green Energy & Technology Cooperation

Nov 24, 2025

India, Australia, and Canada have agreed to establish a new trilateral partnership aimed at accelerating green energy innovation and deepening collaboration on critical minerals and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).

The initiative, announced during a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, marks a major step toward coordinated technological and clean energy advancement across the three nations.

Launch of the ACITI Partnership

The three countries will work together through the newly introduced Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, which is designed to elevate cooperation on emerging and critical technologies while complementing existing bilateral efforts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the development following discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. In a social media statement, PM Modi highlighted that the partnership will strengthen collaboration between democratic partners spanning three continents and three oceans.

Key Focus Areas

The ACITI Partnership will prioritise several strategic domains, including:

• Advancing green energy technologies

• Strengthening and diversifying critical mineral supply chains

• Enhancing cooperation on emerging and critical technologies

• Supporting mass adoption and development of AI-driven solutions

• Promoting secure, resilient, and sustainable innovation pathways

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the partnership leverages the inherent strengths of India, Australia, and Canada to support their shared net-zero ambitions and build more resilient supply chains.

Toward a Secure and Sustainable Future

The three nations also agreed to explore how AI can be deployed at scale to improve public services and enhance the quality of life for citizens. As part of the next steps, officials from all three countries will meet in the first quarter of 2026 to advance the initiative and map the future course of cooperation.

The trilateral framework is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of global clean energy development and technology-led growth among the three economies.
