Juniper Green Energy Brings 100 MWh Merchant Battery Storage Project Online in Rajasthan

Jan 26, 2026

Juniper Green Energy has completed the full commissioning of a 100 MWh merchant battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bikaner, Rajasthan, through its subsidiary Juniper Green Cosmic Pvt. Ltd.

The company confirmed that the facility has successfully concluded trial runs and secured operational clearance from the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC). Commercial operations across the entire 100 MWh capacity began on January 23, 2026.

This marks Juniper Green Energy’s first merchant BESS project to become operational. With its commissioning, the Bikaner facility ranks among the largest battery energy storage systems currently in operation in India.

The project is expected to generate revenue through multiple merchant avenues, including peak power arbitrage, grid support services, and participation in ancillary power markets.

For the Bikaner project, Juniper Green Energy partnered with Envision Energy for the supply and installation of the energy storage infrastructure.

The company highlighted the growing importance of battery storage in enhancing grid reliability, facilitating renewable energy integration, addressing peak demand, and optimising transmission asset utilisation.

As part of its broader strategy, Juniper Green Energy plans to deploy BESS installations across its solar assets connected to the interstate transmission system (ISTS).

Commenting on the milestone, Ankush Malik, CEO of Juniper Green Energy, said that the commissioning of India’s first fully operational merchant BESS reinforces the company’s position in the energy storage space.

He added that the project opens up new revenue opportunities while strengthening grid resilience and supporting the company’s renewable energy goals.

Separately, Juniper Green Energy has already installed 400 MWh of battery storage capacity at its Fatehgarh site in Rajasthan, which is expected to become operational by the first quarter of 2026.
