KPI Green Energy Begins Electricity Supply from 200 MW Solar Plant in Gujarat
Jan 30, 2026
KPI Green Energy, part of the KP Group, has started generating and supplying electricity from its 200 MW AC (240 MW DC) grid-connected solar power project located at Khavda in Gujarat. The project was awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) through a competitive bidding process and operates under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
According to the company, the solar plant has successfully achieved grid synchronisation, with initial power injection into the Gujarat state grid now underway. GUVNL will serve as the sole off-taker for the electricity generated from the project, which aligns with the state’s broader efforts to scale up renewable energy capacity and strengthen grid stability.
Among the First Projects Commissioned at Khavda Solar Park
The project is one of the earliest solar installations to be commissioned within the 1.8 GW GSECL Solar Park (South Block) at Khavda. Once fully operational, it is expected to produce approximately 47.3 crore units of clean electricity annually, sufficient to meet the power needs of nearly 1.3 lakh households.
In addition to energy generation, the project is anticipated to support the creation of around 1,000 green jobs. From an environmental standpoint, it is projected to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 3.4 lakh metric tonnes of CO? each year, an impact comparable to planting about 3.6 lakh trees annually.
Advanced Technology to Enhance Efficiency and Reliability
KPI Green Energy has deployed IoT-enabled robotic cleaning technology at the site to improve operational efficiency and reduce water usage. The automated system achieves close to 98 percent cleaning efficiency, dry-cleaning 1 MW of solar modules in under three hours. With a fleet of 550 robotic units, the entire 240 MWp facility can be cleaned within three hours, offering long-term operational savings over the project’s 25-year lifespan.
To further ensure consistent performance, the company has established a Network Operations Center (NOC) that enables real-time monitoring, centralized control, and instant alerts. Advanced digital platforms, including SCADA systems, are used for seamless data collection and synchronization, while high-resolution CCTV surveillance supports comprehensive plant security.
Designed for Harsh Environmental Conditions
Given the challenging environmental conditions at Khavda, KPI has incorporated several engineering and design enhancements. These include the application of enhanced corrosion-resistant coatings on critical equipment to improve durability and extend asset life.
Cable installation has been reinforced with additional protective sand layers to safeguard insulation, while foundation and civil designs have been customized to suit the site’s unique soil characteristics. To mitigate risks during the monsoon season, the company has also developed elevated and protected storage facilities, ensuring uninterrupted access to materials and equipment throughout the year.
