L&T Onshore Bags Turnkey LNG and LPG Storage Contract from Petronet LNG at Dahej

Jan 17, 2026

L&T Onshore has secured a major lump-sum turnkey contract from Petronet LNG, a joint venture of public sector undertakings ONGC, Indian Oil Corporation, GAIL (India), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation, for the development of large-scale storage infrastructure at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat.

Under the scope of work, L&T Onshore will undertake the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a 170,000 cubic metre LNG/ethane double-wall storage tank along with a 140,000 cubic metre propane double-wall storage tank. The project will also include the development of ethane and propane handling and dispatch facilities to support downstream Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) and Polypropylene (PP) units.

The storage facilities will form a critical part of India’s first integrated petrochemical complex that utilizes LNG cold energy, marking a significant advancement in energy-efficient petrochemical infrastructure.

Commenting on the order win, Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director and President of L&T, said the project represents an important milestone for the company. He noted that the contract supports the development of India’s first petrochemical complex based on LNG cold energy utilization and aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by strengthening domestic petrochemical capabilities.

E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President and Head of L&T Onshore and Member of L&T’s Executive Committee, stated that winning the project underscores L&T’s expertise in delivering technically complex EPCC projects. He added that the company is committed to executing the project safely, efficiently, and within stipulated timelines, while maintaining stringent quality standards.

Once completed, the project is expected to help bridge India’s polypropylene demand-supply gap and reinforce the country’s petrochemical value chain. The development also supports national objectives to expand indigenous petrochemical manufacturing capacity under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
