Luminous Commissions 500 MWh Lithium-Ion Battery Assembly Facility in Baddi

Jan 31, 2026

New automated line to produce battery packs, BESS solutions and e-mobility batteries. Luminous Power Technologies has operationalised its first lithium-ion battery assembly line with an annual capacity of 500 MWh at its manufacturing facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, marking a key milestone in the company’s expansion into advanced energy storage solutions.

According to the company, the newly commissioned line incorporates advanced robotic automation and precision-driven manufacturing processes, designed to deliver high standards of quality, safety, and performance across a range of lithium-ion battery products.

Commenting on the inauguration, Rajiv Ganju, Senior Vice President – Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain, said the development reinforces Luminous’ focus on scalable, high-quality manufacturing.

“At Luminous, manufacturing excellence is central to our commitment to delivering dependable energy solutions. This state-of-the-art lithium-ion assembly line strengthens our integrated manufacturing ecosystem and global supply chain, while underscoring our emphasis on localisation, precision, and future-ready operations,” Ganju said.

Wide product range and scalable applications

The new facility is capable of producing standalone lithium-ion battery packs, stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and automotive battery packs for e-rickshaw applications. It supports individual battery capacities ranging from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh, with system-level scalability extending up to 1 MWh, enabling deployment across residential, commercial and industrial (C&I), and electric mobility segments.

Luminous also highlighted that the assembly line offers end-to-end digital traceability for every battery pack, fully aligned with the latest Battery Aadhaar requirements. This feature enables complete lifecycle tracking, strengthening regulatory compliance, transparency, and customer confidence.

Ganesh Moorthi, Chief Technology Officer, Luminous Power Technologies, said the commissioning of the line represents the start of a long-term roadmap in next-generation energy technologies.

“Designed to support standalone batteries, stationary storage, and e-mobility applications, the facility combines advanced automation with several first-of-their-kind quality assessment technologies. Along with comprehensive digital tracking aligned to Battery Aadhaar norms, it enables us to deliver lithium-ion solutions that meet stringent safety, reliability, and performance benchmarks while remaining scalable for future requirements,” Moorthi said.

Supporting clean energy transition

The company added that the new lithium-ion assembly line will play a critical role in enabling renewable energy storage, supporting electric mobility adoption, reducing carbon emissions through grid and EV applications, and improving manufacturing efficiency through automation. It will also contribute to circular economy initiatives, including battery recycling and component reuse.

Luminous said the commissioning of the facility strengthens its positioning as a full-stack consumer energy solutions provider, aligned with India’s transition towards cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready energy systems.
