NCRTC Launches ‘Solar on Track’ Pilot at Namo Bharat Depot
Nov 21, 2025
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has introduced a pioneering ‘Solar on Track’ pilot initiative at the Namo Bharat Depot in Duhai, marking a significant step in its clean-energy transition. As part of the pilot, 28 track-mounted solar panels, each rated at 550 Wp, have been installed.
According to NCRTC, this is the first time such an installation has been implemented in any RRTS or metro system in India. The organisation shared in a social media update that the pilot has been set up along the Pit Wheel Track at the Duhai depot, covering a 70-metre stretch and offering a total capacity of 15.4 kWp.
The system is projected to generate nearly 17,500 kWh of electricity annually, which could help reduce carbon emissions by around 16 tonnes of CO? every year.
NCRTC aims to meet roughly 70% of its total energy requirement from renewable sources. As part of this broader solar roadmap, the corporation plans to install 15 MWp of in-house rooftop solar capacity across stations, depots, and various buildings—of which 5.5 MW has already been commissioned.
Its 2024–25 annual report notes that NCRTC has deployed 4.7 MW of rooftop solar installations across its network, contributing to both cost savings and emission reduction. The organisation’s long-term strategy also includes sourcing up to 60% of corridor power demand from a proposed 110 MW captive solar plant, reinforcing its commitment to low-carbon growth.
