NTPC Green Energy Begins Commercial Operations for 75.5 MW of Its 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar Project
Nov 20, 2025
NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) has commenced commercial operations for 75.5 MW of its massive 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project in Gujarat. The milestone marks the first operational segment of the project under the CPSU Scheme Phase-II, Tranche-III.
In a regulatory filing, the company confirmed that the 75.5 MW portion was officially declared commercially operational from 00:00 hours on November 19, 2025. With this addition, the total installed capacity of the NGEL Group has now reached 7,639.075 MW.
Backing for Large-Scale Renewable Expansion
Earlier in July 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved enhanced financial delegation for NTPC, expanding its investment powers in its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy. Under the revised limits, NGEL can now invest up to Rs20,000 crore—a significant increase from the previous Rs7,500 crore cap.
This expanded investment capability enables NTPC Green Energy to fast-track renewable capacity development through NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd and its various joint ventures and subsidiaries. The company is targeting 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, in line with India’s national clean-energy ambitions.
