Dec 19, 2025
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), has commissioned 37.925 MW of capacity at its 300 MW Khavda Solar Energy Project in Gujarat. The project forms part of NTPC Renewable Energy’s 450 MW Hybrid Tranche-V development.
In a regulatory filing, the company stated that the fifth part capacity of 37.925 MW from the Khavda solar project has been declared commercially operational with effect from 00:00 hours on December 18, 2025.
Following this commissioning, the total installed renewable capacity of the NGEL Group has increased to 7,927.26 MW, the company said.
During the same week, the NTPC Group added around 321.66 MW of generation capacity across Rajasthan and Gujarat. NTPC commissioned 78 MW at its Nokh Solar PV Project in Rajasthan, while NTPC Renewable Energy brought 243.66 MW of part capacity online at its 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project in Gujarat.
With these additions, NTPC’s total installed and commercial capacity now stands at 60,783 MW on a standalone basis and 85,540 MW at the group level.
Earlier, in July 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved enhanced delegation of powers to NTPC under the Maharatna CPSE framework, allowing higher investment limits in its renewable energy subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy.
As a result, NGEL is authorised to invest in NTPC Renewable Energy Limited and other joint ventures and subsidiaries beyond the earlier cap of Rs 7,500 crore, with the limit extended up to Rs 20,000 crore. These investments are aimed at accelerating renewable capacity additions and supporting NTPC’s target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
