POWERGRID Subsidiary Commissions Rajasthan Transmission Project to Evacuate 8.1 GW of Solar Power
Jan 20, 2026
POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (POWERGRID), has successfully commissioned an inter-state transmission project aimed at strengthening the evacuation of solar power from Rajasthan’s designated renewable energy zones.
According to a regulatory filing, the project—titled Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for Evacuation of Power from Solar Energy Zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) under Phase II – Part E—has been fully operational since January 14, 2026.
The transmission scheme was awarded to POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Ltd. through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. The project forms a critical component of India’s expanding renewable energy infrastructure and is designed to facilitate the large-scale integration of solar generation into the national grid.
Once operational, the transmission system will enable reliable power evacuation from Rajasthan’s high-capacity solar energy zones, which are central to India’s renewable energy growth strategy. The project is expected to enhance grid stability while supporting inter-state power flows from renewable-rich regions.
POWERGRID, a Maharatna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, continues to play a leading role in the development of inter-state transmission networks that are essential for integrating renewable energy capacity across India and supporting the country’s clean energy transition.
