Rajesh Power Forays into Battery Energy Storage, Secures 65 MW/130 MWh BESS Project from GUVNL

Jan 07, 2026

Rajesh Power Services has entered the utility-scale battery energy storage segment after receiving a Letter of Intent from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for a 65 MW/130 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System project in Gujarat.

The project will be developed at Virpore and marks a significant diversification for the Gujarat-based renewable and conventional energy solutions provider.

The standalone BESS project has been awarded under a tariff-based competitive bidding process and will receive Viability Gap Funding support through the Power System Development Fund.

According to the company, the project is scheduled to be completed within 18 months from the date of signing the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement.

Rajesh Power Services stated that the 65 MW/130 MWh battery storage system will be capable of delivering 65 MW of power for up to two hours, enabling utilities to manage peak power demand, enhance grid stability, and support higher integration of renewable energy.

The project forms part of Gujarat’s broader roadmap to develop 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh of battery energy storage capacity across the state.

Commenting on the development, Kurang Panchal, Managing Director of Rajesh Power Services, said that battery energy storage is becoming a critical component of India’s power system as renewable energy capacity continues to expand.

He noted that the project represents an important milestone for the company as it scales into grid-level energy storage solutions that enhance system flexibility, reliability, and support the country’s clean energy transition.

He further added that Rajesh Power Services’ experience in executing complex power transmission and distribution projects positions the company well to participate in emerging opportunities linked to grid modernisation and the integration of clean energy technologies.
