Rajesh Power Signs BESPA with GUVNL for 65 MW / 130 MWh Battery Storage Project in Gujarat

Mar 07, 2026

Ahmedabad, March 6, 2026: Rajesh Power Projects Private Limited, a wholly-owned arm of Rajesh Power Services Limited (RPSL), has inked a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with state-owned Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). The agreement paves the way for a 65 MW / 130 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to be developed at Virpore, Gujarat.

This BESPA lays out the framework for the design, commissioning, and long-term operation of the battery storage facility, marking Rajesh Power’s first foray into large-scale battery energy storage solutions.

Under the agreement, the 65 MW project with 130 MWh storage capacity—enough to supply electricity for up to two hours—will operate under a 12-year contract from the date of commissioning at a tariff of Rs 1.89 lakh per MW per month. The facility is slated to be operational within 18 months of signing the agreement.

The contract was awarded through a competitive tariff-based bidding process earlier this year, as part of GUVNL's 'Request for Selection for Standalone BESS – Phase VII', which receives support under Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).

Standalone battery storage systems are increasingly being deployed by utilities to improve grid management and integrate renewable energy efficiently. By storing excess electricity during low-demand periods and releasing it during peak consumption, these systems enhance grid stability and optimize energy procurement. Gujarat has positioned itself as a front-runner in grid-scale battery storage, with GUVNL advancing multiple BESS phases to complement the state’s growing renewable capacity.

Mr. Kurang Panchal, Managing Director of Rajesh Power Services Limited, remarked, “Signing this BESPA with GUVNL is a significant step for Rajesh Power as we enter the utility-scale battery storage arena. With renewable energy expanding rapidly, battery systems will be essential for grid reliability and flexibility. This project showcases our dedication to strengthening India’s power infrastructure through quality execution and sustainable operations.”
