SJVN Green Energy Achieves Full Commercial Operations for 1 GW Bikaner Solar Project in Rajasthan
Dec 30, 2025
SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, has successfully achieved commercial operation of its 1,000 MW solar power project in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, marking one of the largest utility-scale solar installations commissioned in the state.
The company confirmed the milestone through a regulatory filing, stating that the project has met its Commercial Operation Date (COD) and is now fully operational. The commissioning represents a major step in SJVN’s ongoing efforts to expand India’s renewable energy generation capacity.
According to the company, the Bikaner solar project is expected to generate approximately 2,454.55 million units of electricity during its first year of operations. Over its 25-year project life, cumulative generation is projected at around 56,838 million units. Power from the plant will be supplied at a maximum tariff of Rs 2.57 per unit, supporting the availability of competitively priced green electricity.
The project has been developed across 5,000 acres of purchased land near Village Banderwala in Bikaner district. SJVN noted that the commissioning of the project makes a meaningful contribution toward the Government of India’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
With a total investment of Rs 5,492 crore, the solar facility has been executed under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) framework, utilising indigenously manufactured solar cells and modules, in line with the government’s Make in India initiative.
Beyond clean power generation, the project is expected to deliver significant environmental benefits, including an estimated reduction of approximately 2.79 million tonnes of carbon emissions, reinforcing its role in supporting India’s climate and sustainability goals.
