Türkiye Awards 800 MW Solar Capacity in YEKA Auction

Feb 06, 2025

Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has awarded 800 MW of solar capacity under the Yenilenebilir Enerji Kaynak Alanlar? (YEKA) program. The auction resulted in an average levelized tariff of Rs0.0325/kWh, with projects to be developed in Konya, Karaman, Malatya, Van, Antalya, and Kütahya.

Key highlights:

  • Electricity Sale Terms: Selected bidders can sell power in the free market for the first 60 months before transitioning to the fixed tariff of Rs0.0325/kWh for 20 years.
  • Economic Impact: The initiative is expected to reduce natural gas imports by 30000 lakh cubic meters, saving nearly Rs300 crore over 20 years.
  • Competitive Bidding: The auction attracted 146 applications from 67 local and foreign companies, with the government investing 5000 lakh to generate 150 crore kWh annually, powering around 600,000 households.
  • Local Content Requirement: The tender required 75% locally produced modules, reinforcing Türkiye’s focus on domestic solar manufacturing.

Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized that the auction price was less than half of current market rates and aligned with self-reliance. This move follows Türkiye’s 2023 solar panel import regulations, aimed at protecting local manufacturers.
