Waaree Group to Build India’s Largest Battery Gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh

Feb 19, 2026

16 GWh integrated facility to boost domestic energy storage manufacturing. Waaree Energy Storage Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (WESSPL), a subsidiary of Waaree Energies, is set to establish the country’s largest integrated battery gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh, reinforcing India’s push toward clean-energy self-reliance and reduced import dependence.

The proposed facility will have a capacity of 16 GWh and will be developed at Rambilli in Anakapalli district. The project will cover the entire battery value chain, including lithium-ion cell manufacturing, battery pack assembly, and large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

With an investment of Rs 8,175 crore, the gigafactory is expected to generate around 3,000 direct jobs and is slated for commissioning in July 2027. Once operational, it will stand as India’s largest integrated battery manufacturing unit.

The project has received in-principle clearance from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, including approval for the allotment of 300 acres of land.

Industry observers see the move as a strategic step in strengthening India’s domestic energy storage ecosystem, which is critical for large-scale renewable energy deployment and grid stability.
