Websol Partners with APEDB to Explore 4 GW Solar Cell and Module Manufacturing Project

Nov 18, 2025

Kolkata-based solar module and cell manufacturer Websol Energy System has announced that its subsidiary, Websol Renewables, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB). The agreement aims to assess the feasibility of setting up a 4 GW integrated solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh.

In an official statement, the company noted that the proposed facility is a key element of Websol’s long-term expansion strategy to significantly grow its domestic renewable energy manufacturing capacity.

The MoU was signed by Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director of Websol Energy System. Company representatives Sanjana Khaitan and Amrit Daga received the signed agreement from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during the ceremony.

Reflecting on the development, Agarwal said, “We are pleased to formalize this MoU with APEDB, marking a crucial milestone in executing Websol’s strategic growth initiatives. In September 2025, we announced plans to build a 4 GW solar cell and module plant in two phases, which will take our total manufacturing capacity to 5.2 GW.”

He added that with more than 30 years of technical experience in solar cell production, the company is focused on scaling up to deliver high-efficiency solar solutions across the country. “This investment phase demonstrates our commitment to strengthening India’s renewable energy leadership and generating long-term value for all stakeholders,” he said.
