BPCL Rolls Out PNG–CNG Drive 2.0 Across India to Accelerate Shift to Cleaner Energy
Jan 22, 2026
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced the nationwide implementation of PNG and CNG Drive 2.0, a major awareness initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of natural gas and supporting India’s transition towards a cleaner, gas-based energy economy.
The launch aligns with the Government of India’s objective of increasing the share of natural gas in the country’s overall energy mix. As part of the rollout, a new series of television commercials under the Drive 2.0 campaign has been introduced on behalf of the PNGRB Industry Committee. The advertisements feature actor and Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan promoting Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and actor Sakshi Tanwar endorsing Piped Natural Gas (PNG), presenting natural gas as a safe, economical, convenient, and environmentally responsible fuel choice.
The nationwide awareness campaign will run from January 1 to March 31, 2026, under the guidance of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). It brings together all City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies across the country, with the objective of driving PNG adoption across residential, commercial, and industrial segments, while also encouraging wider use of CNG in the transport sector.
Speaking to the media, Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), BPCL, said that PNG and CNG Drive 2.0 represents a meaningful contribution to nation-building and enhanced ease of living. He highlighted that natural gas offers superior safety, uninterrupted supply, and significantly lower carbon emissions, making it a key enabler of cleaner air and sustainable urban growth amid rising mobility demands.
The campaign’s central theme, ‘Non-Stop Zindagi’, positions natural gas as “gas on tap” — a reliable, continuous, and hassle-free energy source for households, businesses, and transportation. While PNG removes the inconvenience associated with cylinder refills and improves safety standards, CNG provides a cleaner mobility solution without affecting vehicle performance.
Rahul Tandon, Business Head – Gas, noted that the initiative reflects strong nationwide collaboration between public and private CGD entities. He said the campaign reinforces natural gas as a life-enabling fuel supporting homes, commerce, industry, and mobility, while contributing to India’s long-term climate commitments, including the Net Zero target by 2070.
Echoing these views, Neera Asthana Phate, General Manager, Corporate Communications and CRM, Mahanagar Gas, stated that PNG and CNG function as everyday energy companions, powering homes, offices, restaurants, and transportation systems. She added that extensive public outreach under the campaign will help build momentum for a nationwide clean energy movement.
Raman Malik, Head – PR and Brand, BPCL, emphasised the role of transparent and credible communication in advancing the clean energy transition, noting that effective media engagement is essential for translating policy intent into informed consumer adoption.
India’s City Gas Distribution infrastructure has witnessed rapid expansion over the past decade, growing from about 25–30 geographical areas in 2014 to 307 authorised areas today, covering almost the entire mainland. Against a target of 12.64 crore PNG household connections and 18,336 CNG stations by 2034, the country has already achieved 1.61 crore PNG connections and over 8,500 CNG stations, supported by more than three lakh kilometre-inch of pipeline infrastructure.
Natural gas consumption in the CGD sector has increased sharply from 14.8 MMSCMD to 42 MMSCMD, indicating strong consumer acceptance. Regulatory reforms by PNGRB, including the ‘One Nation, One Grid, One Tariff’ framework, have further enhanced affordability and accessibility, leading to reduced PNG and CNG prices across the country.
